I don’t know. Seems like they don’t really have a problem now, but in the playoffs they were having some trouble. But that was probably attributed to Beckett’s being hurt at that time.

By the way, Mike (this is for you). I wasn’t making excuses about the 06′ season, I was simply pointing out that even a great Beckett wouldn’t have made up the difference between the two things. Other factors would have had to come into play, including the ones that I mentioned; Lowell continuing to hit, the Yankees not STEALING Abreu for nothing, and pitching depth was a huge problem. The 2006 season opened up Theo’s eyes I believe. The five game series where not having pitching was a huge reason they were swept and disappeared afterwards, the Wily Mo for Arroyo trade (a reason why they didn’t have pitching). he went out and signed Dice K, grabbed a couple hitters who could get on base, although one was terrible, and of course the prospects coming through big was huge. Well, there were many factors to the 2007 season I guess, a better Lowell, a better Beckett, etc etc etc.
